Spring 2023

Hello Sheridan Community! It is with great pleasure that I take the lead at Whitney Benefits as the new Executive Director. Edward A. Whitney and Whitney Benefits have left a great legacy – they’ve done amazing things, are currently doing great things, and will always look to make an impact on Sheridan. I am excited to be a part of the continuing legacy. A big shout out and thank you to Patrick Henderson and the board of trustees, past and present, who have shaped this organization. Whitney Benefits has incredible staff, they are key to the successes we have had and I appreciate what they all bring to help make our community better. As the Executive Director for Whitney Benefits, my goal is to serve Whitney Benefits and its founder the late Edward A. Whitney, the board of directors, and this community as a whole. Mr. Whitney is known for his statement: “My estate is not my own. I’m only it’s steward: it belongs to the people and I dare not be careless with it.” Definitely a statement of selflessness! I commend Mr. Whitney for leaving what he did for this community. We are the benefactors – we must be good stewards and the legacy will continue. As we look to strengthen the legacy, we will be a great partner to our community. Our work will reflect who Edward A. Whitney was – community building, generous, disciplined, reasonable, compassionate, industrious, and civic-minded. We will hold ourselves accountable to be the best partner. These values will drive our philanthropy focus. This will enable us to continue our great work with students, Sheridan College, and our community. In my work, I will continue to: Assess national trends in higher education funding and collaboration. Initiate funding conversations with industry to support education. Cooperate with foundations to fund high output programs at Sheridan College. Discuss with local school districts to support post-graduation preparedness. Collaborate with local government to address future business planning. Thank you for all you have done for this community. We look froward to forging ahead into the future to do great things. Sincerely, Erin Kilbride Whitney Benefits Executive Director
