Dear friends,
Prior to his death in November 1917, Edward A. Whitney
created a will to establish Whitney Benefits, the first
educational foundation in Wyoming. Mr. Whitney spent thirty
years planning this gift to the people of Sheridan County.
The Foundation was established in 1927. In the years since
the establishment of the Foundation the earnings from the
trust have educated thousands of youth, heavily funded
Sheridan College and the YMCA, built Whitney Commons
Park and the Sheridan Ice Rink, and benefited the area and
its people in many other ways.
Whitney Benefits has partnered with the WYO Theater, Sheridan College, and the Sheridan College Foundation to
celebrate 100 years since Mr. Whitney's death. In September, Sheridan College hosted Whitney Days at Sheridan College
Campus and in various locations around Sheridan. Events included Wild West Wednesday featuring an Open House with
music and food and a Full-Moon Hike, a comedian, Third Thursday booth, BBQ with games and photo booth, a rodeo, and
volleyball matches. The events were well attended by both students, faculty, and community members. On Monday,
November 14th at 5:30 pm Whitney Benefits, the WYO Theater, and Sheridan College Foundation are co-hosting a re-
dedication of the North Wing of the WYO Performing Arts & Education Center, Hallmark Building / WYO Theater and on
Thursday, November 17th at 7:00pm please join us at the Whitney Center for the Arts to enjoy the Whitney Center Jazz
Orchestra.
Warmest Regards,
Jennifer Destefano
