Winter Message
December 12, 2019
Dear Whitney Scholars,
I understand I am in the minority in saying this, but I
welcomed the recent snow with open arms. I likely won’t be
singing the same tune come February but I am excited to
dive in to all winter has to offer. I am looking forward to
dusting off my skis and heading up the mountain for an
afternoon and then warming my hands and feet while
drinking hot chocolate in the aftermath.
Regardless of how you feel about the changing seasons, I
encourage to you take advantage of all that our community
has to offer. Even if you don’t plan on spending an afternoon
trekking in the snow, I hope you are able to find something
you enjoy during this time of year and attack it with gusto. Volunteer opportunities abound this time of year and if you have
a free afternoon consider stopping by the dog and cat shelter or ringing a bell with the salvation army. Taking the step to
change your attitude and situation instead of waiting for your circumstances to change makes all the difference. As Whitney
Scholars you likely already know what it takes to change your circumstances whether you have done this through
education or vocational pursuits. I encourage you to use that attitude to continue improving yourself and your community.
So here’s to always moving forward. I hope you make the most of this season and I would love to hear how you are
changing our community for the better.
Best wishes,
Sarah Sommers
